1. Mercury is retrograde. This makes communication difficult. It also means I won't actually be selling the Magic Bus until Mercury goes direct. But folks can come and look at it.
2. That difficult communication most definitely applies to my marriage. We had therapy today. It was HARD. But we made an appointment for two weeks and agreed to some homework. There was one point during today's session where it took everything I had not to bolt from the room. I was fairly certain my marriage was kaput. So the fact that we're going back in two weeks and agreed to homework could be viewed positively.
3. Stella is a dog. No way around it. She gave Buddha a concussion. She broke his tail. Buddha/Clyde went to all that trouble to come back to me and what did I do? I gave him Stella. Life is clearly not fair. She also ate three gophers in 15 minutes this morning at the dog park. Did I mention that Stella is a dog. All dog.
4. We're in deep discussions around here about a replacement vehicle for the Magic Bus. Hondas and Toyotas are leading the pack. Has anyone driven an Element? What do you think? I'm rather fond of the orange ones. They're orange. The color of my soul. Go figure.
5. We are supposed to go to Scandinavia in August. I know I have readers who reside in Scandinavia. I also know I have readers who have traveled in Scandinavia. If you have lived there, traveled there or just dreamed of going there, what would you do if you were going for 21 days in August 2006. Especially if you were a NakedJen type girl like me?
6. Today we have had rain, hail, sunshine, freezing temperatures and snow. SNOW. All brought to you courtesy of Global Warming. It doesn't get any better than Santa Cruz in March, I tell you.
7. I'm going to Maui in June. For the film festival. And NeverNakedBeth's 40th birthday celebration. HalfNakedRobin is going with us. All three sisters in the same place at the same time. I don't think that's happened since my wedding.
8. I had a neurology appointment today. My California neurologist (I have a DC neurologist, as well) has been my neurologist since I had my brain surgery in 1989. At that time, she was very by the book. No wiggle room. When I started having seizures in 1995, I was a very difficult patient for her because we couldn't find a "typical" seizure medication that would work for me. Everything we tried would be toxic. Even at the tiniest levels. I finally told her I had to go figure it out. She was very skeptical, but she was supportive. And documented my entire journey. Weekly. Every trial and error. Every herb. Every supplement. Every dietary change. All of it.
When I saw her today she told me that she's now in school to become a Master Herbalist. She told me that part of the reason she was doing this was because she realized that herbs had their place in medicine and that one thing my journey had taught her was that it all can be integrated together. You do not need to just look at one solution. The answer often lies with multiple modalities working together to help a person be whole.
Now how cool is that? Pretty darn cool, if you ask me. I love that she's expanding her horizons. She told me it will make her a better doctor for her patients. I have no doubt that it will. Absolutely no doubt.
9. We had the best Ethiopian food last night in San Jose. Why don't we have Ethiopian food in Santa Cruz? We have 12,543 tacquerias. Not one Ethiopian or Vietnamese restaurant. We could do with one less tacqueria and one more Ethiopian, I think. I wonder who else I can convince of this?
10. Was anyone else besides the cast of Crash as excited as I was that they won BEST PICTURE? I was jumping off of Grace's couch and screaming with glee. That was, by far, my favorite film of 2005. I'm so glad it won. The screenplay was just brilliant. Lovely. Will not discuss the fact that Brokeback Mountain's screenplay won verses Munich. I was not impressed. Even the Capote screenplay was a better screenplay than Brokeback Mountain. Brokeback's magic was in the direction. And Ang Lee won. He deserved that award, hands down. That movie was beautiful to watch. He was gutsy allowing for so much space and quiet. But the screenplay? Pfft. I do believe if the Academy actually had to read the screenplays before voting they might actually consider their votes just a tad more carefully. But then who reads anything these days? Why I'm not even sure any of you have read this far, have you?
