On Wednesday afternoon my telephone rang. I know you all are thinking, “Big Deal, Nakedjen. Phones ring all the time. So what?”
It was Frances. Frances is the lovely woman who owns Rosie, the golden retriever mamadog of Buddha and Stella. Frances was calling me because it turns out that two of Buddha and Stella’s siblings need new homes. They’re yellow puppies. One boy, one girl. Bella and Bonito. They had originally been adopted out to two different homes. Bella had gone to a home with a four-year-old girl. Bonito had gone to a home with parents who worked all day. According to Frances, the four year old girl is just reallyreallyreally allergic to Bella. So the family can’t keep her. In addition, Bella was spayed just a tad early and has a bit of urinary incontinence. I guess the mom in the family is a bit tired of cleaning up urine everywhere!
Bonito’s family has decided they shouldn’t really have a dog at all. They both work all day. They’re never home. And Frances tells me Bonito is very destructive and has eaten their curtains and destroyed their couch and coffee table. He now spends his entire day locked in the garage (so he won't destroy things) and they both realize that truly isn't a very good life for a dog. I asked if he had been crate trained and she said he hasn’t even really been house trained yet. Goodness.
So Frances was calling me to ask if I knew of anyone who might want these dogs. She didn’t want them to go to the pound because they’re not cute little puppies anymore and if they end up at the pound they’ll probably end up being put to sleep. Who wants dogs that eat couches and pee on the carpets?
I’ve been wrestling with this for days. Losing sleep. Tossing and turning. Really searching my soul about this. It was the new moon on Wednesday and so I also asked the Universe about what I should do.
Well, I decided I’m going to totally surprise DearSweetDave and bring these two dogs home. Playmates for Buddha and Stella!! I know it will be a challenge at first, but I’ve already figured out how to fit two more crates in our bedroom (and these dogs will be crate trained…it’s not too late!). I also know I can fix Bella’s incontinence problem with one of my magical herbal treatments (and diligence) and well, it just makes sense, don’t you think? The universe sent me these dogs. I can't possibly say no.
I mean we already have two dogs. What’s two more, really? Plus, they’re Buddha and Stella’s brother and sister. They’re going to absolutely LOVE having them around. One big happy dog family! Of course, I’ll have to up my time spent with the dogs, but I’m home all day long every day anyway. I can do that, easily, right? I’m already going to the dog park every day. I’ll just take all FOUR dogs now.
This is just going to be the very best thing. I just feel it in my bones. I’m picking them up today. Buddha and Stella are going to just be over the moon! Playmates!! And I can’t wait to see the look on DearSweetDave’s face. I know he’s going to be sososo happy to have two dogs of his own, as well. What a grand surprise this will be. Let the puppy games begin!
