It's World AIDS Day.
A show of hands, please. How many of you know someone, personally, who has died of AIDS?
How many of you know someone who is living with AIDS?
The fact is that many more people are now living with AIDS for a lot longer than ever before. In fact, there are 40 million people living with AIDS worldwide and yet there is still no cure.
It is quite possible that those of you who did not raise your hand actually do know someone who is living with AIDS.
I encourage each of you to pause for at least a moment today and send some peace and hope to those in Africa who are afflicted with this disease every single day. And then I encourage you to also Join Red. Or one of the multitude of other organizations that is helping to fight AIDS worldwide.
As Bono says, "You are not mad for thinking we can do something about this." I've joined. I hope you'll join, too.
