I am a Deadhead. We all know that. There is an auction, today, of, well, stuff. Some would call it memorabilia. I think I might just call it stuff. Lots of stuff. That Ram Rod, the penultimate Grateful Dead roadie, managed to hold onto for a very long time and is now selling. Stuff like a muddy foot mat and even a pack of Jerry's unfiltered Camel cigarettes!
It's amazing to me, honestly, what folks are willing to pay for some of these things.
$1400 for a print of the boys in the band!
$600 for a poster.
Interestingly, they are auctioning off at least one of Jerry's Doug Irwin guitars. I thought, but I must have been mistaken, that all of Doug's guitars had been returned to HIM for his own auction.
Anyway, I have my own collection of stuff. Some paintings by Jerry. Some posters. Some signed photographs. Lots and lots and lots of ticket stubs.
And you know what? To me they're all priceless. However, I just can not imagine ever coming to the day where I would say, "I should auction this stuff off. I bet someone else would really want it! I bet it's really valuable!!"
Again, the memories for me are what is most valuable. Everything else is, well, just stuff.
Um...well...except this might be really fun to have. If you were going to actually get something, that is.
