Now For Sale on ebay, NakedJen

Yesterday, Naked Friday found me at none other than the ebay campus located in San Jose.  And because it was Naked Friday and because I am NakedJen,  I did what all of you would most certainly have wanted me to do.

I got naked!

And took pictures to document it, of course.

You know, since the very early days of this blog, when I first started posting naked photos of myself, not a week goes by that I do not receive at least one (and sometimes many more) email request from folks asking me to please send me an actual photograph of myself.

I have never done this.

But today that is about to change.

Since I took the photos at ebay yesterday I thought, "Hey, Nakedjen, why not offer to autograph those photos (or any photo really) of yourself from ebay and actually sell them on ebay while you're at it?"

DearSweetReaders of Nakedjen.  Those of you who have written in the past and asked for a photo of me, who have requested that I send you an actual glossy naked photo...

Now's your chance. 

I've set up an auction on ebay and you're free to purchase as many photos as you like.  Not only that, but you can choose to have whatever photos you'd like to have printed.  Your only limitation is that it has to have already appeared on Nakedjen or my Flickr site.  Meaning that I'm not going to go take a "new" photo just for you.

But if there's any particular photo among my photos that really captures your fancy and that you'd love to have, well, it's yours.  You just have to win the auction on ebay and as fast as you can say "NAKEDJEN" it will be printed by my professional photo shop (no laser jet or ink jet printing here!), autographed for you in whatever way that you'd like (I'll say anything, but I think you know that by now) and sent right off to you courtesy of the kind folks at the USPS. 

Our internet connection is acting all wonky here at Chez Naked tonight so of course I don't have all the fab photos we took yesterday at ebay up on my flickr account yet, but you can certainly check out the auction right here.  You also know there are literally hundreds of OTHER photos to choose from both on Nakedjen and Flickr if having an ebay photo just isn't exactly the photo you want to grace your bedside table (because we all know that's where you're going to put this, right?)  HAR!

Anyway, happy bidding to all!  And yes, I know this is very silly.  Perhaps one of my silliest stunts, yet.  But I promise this isn't an April Fool's! 

Ask and You Receive

Remember this post?  Where I asked for a way to have the Internet give me a list of other websites that I might also enjoy or other blogs that I might also like to read?  Sort of a "surfing guide" that was similar to what happens when I'm shopping on Amazon.

Well, today I discovered Yoono!

I've just installed it and I'm still giving it a whirl, but so far, I'm at least happy to see that I'm finding things that truly are interesting and match up with the sites that I'm currently viewing.

Of course it's new.  So there are already tweaks I would suggest.  But hey, isn't it nice when you ask and then receive?  I think it's always a beautiful thing!

If You Like Nakedjen, You Might Also Like...

i had an interesting conversation with matt and lisa last night. we went to saturn for dinner. i've been having these very interesting conversations lately about the future of the internet. and new media. and the crossroads of both and what the next big thing might be and how to best serve the regular users with tools that they can actually use.

anyway...i asked lisa and matt what they wanted the internet to do for them? and lisa said she was just plain frustrated that when she used search engines she didn't get the results that she's hoping to find. and she pointed out that when we were creating our postcards for the new office, she came up totally empty handed and yet i arrived at the meeting with over 200 possible images and a complete idea.

so i told her that i think it's a matter of actually knowing HOW to search. and i gave her a few pointers and was shocked at how very little she actually knew about both search engines and the internet in general. and then i realized that lisa is the average internet user, really. i'm lucky, i suppose, that i used to actually work in the industry. and so i understand it from the inside even if i don't actually work on the inside anymore at all. but i am always interested in communication and new media (it's one of my passions) and how to make things easier for everyone.

so i realized that the internet should really come with instructions. i also know that what i want more than anything else for the internet is something along the lines of how amazon recommends other items you might like.


so when i go to blog a, or website a, i get a little list somewhere that says, "if you love this website, you might also like this website. or this one. or this one, too." and the listings could even be weighted saying that 90% of people who read blog a, for example, also read blog b, but only 72% read blog c, and 46% read blog d.

it could also work in a really interesting way for retail websites. of course you can always go on froogle or shopping.com and just do a search for a specific item. say manolo blahnik shoes. but what if you're not sure what kind of shoes you want exactly?!

so instead you type purple retro pumps into your browser. and you get back a listing with a bunch of sites. and you go to site a (which you'd assume would probably be your best option given that it's listed first...this is often a mistake for many people searching because while site a may have the purple retro pumps it could very well be that site z is the one that specializes in retro shoes and has a much larger selection!) and when you get there you see the purple retro pumps. but then you also get a sidebar listing that says basically that people who came to this site also went to these other sites. and again they're weighted.

now before you go, "but retail sites don't want you to LEAVE their site!" and i agree. they don't. but it also would make the whole user experience so much better, i think. and retailers would know that they should offer the BEST user experience so you don't even bother looking to see "what else is there." but the thing is, online retailers already know that you're not just coming to their site and making a purchase. well, some people do, but most are also using the internet to look for the very BEST VALUE. so they're not going to just go with the first site they see. they'll perhaps open additional browser windows and do some other checking.

but imagine if instead of doing all that, you'd at least already have a list of sites where you know others who have shopped at THIS SITE have also shopped? might make you think about checking out those sites, too, right?

it's not unlike how you purchase something from a catalog and then suddenly you're getting catalogs from other similar companies. even though you didn't even ask to be on their mailing list. you make a purchase from sundance, for example, and then you're getting catalogs from garnet hill. kind of like that. only this is allowing you to CHOOSE the information you'd like to receive. because you can just ignore those offerings on your sidebar (and i see this as a browser plug-in) or not even have them appear at all if you don't install the plug-in to begin with.

just thoughts swirling around my head. i know that if i could have a browser like that, i'd be an even happier internet citizen.

Smile, You're on Candid Camera!

My resume is floating about on the Internet somewhere.  Although, truth be told, I'm not even sure if it is MY RESUME that is floating about or a resume that someone else created for me.  The reason I say this is that last week I started getting contacted by all these folks with job offers. 

Not just any job offers, mind you.  They didn't want me to be naked!  They wanted me to actually keep my clothes on and to come and be the marketing director for this or that company in Silicon Valley.  Or even here in Santa Cruz.  I wouldn't even have to drive the hill. 

I thought all of that was a bit odd, given that we all know I haven't exactly been a burning force in the world of marketing in quite some time.  But it got even stranger just a few moments ago.

My telephone just rang.  On the other end?  A woman from Google.  What the fuck?  She said she had a position for me and would I please come in and interview? 

Well, I told her that unless it was a VP of Marketing located in their London offices, I really wasn't interested.  She asked if she found me a job in London could she call me back? 

Well, who am I to say no?  I told her if she found me the perfect job at Google in London then yes, by all means, she can certainly call me back.  Then she actually complimented me on the Dreamsweet Website (she was looking at it while talking to me) and said she hoped I was enjoying my new venture, but really, isn't it time for me to go back into marketing?

Why do I have this feeling that this is some kind of HUGE PRANK?  That at some point, I'm going to put on my nice black suit, my prim heels and actually wash my hair and then Alan Funt will jump out and say, "Smile, Nakedjen, you're on Candid Camera!" 

Because, honestly, I'm just stymied about this sudden interest in my marketing capabilities.  As I said, I'm good, but I'm not THAT good.
